I have had a couple of partners (most recently TenarisUniversity) ask for the meaning of the level of education codes in the student profile. I found the following in the research guide and thought it might be useful to include this in the main documentation as it is not intuitive what the codes mean in the download:
level_of_education: Collected during student registration from a drop-down list control.
Value Description
p Doctorate.
m Master’s or professional degree.
b Bachelor’s degree.
a Associate’s degree.
hs Secondary/high school.
jhs Junior secondary/junior high/middle school.
el Elementary/primary school.
none None.
other Other.
(blank) User did not specify level of education.
p_se Doctorate in science or engineering (no longer used).
p_oth Doctorate in another field (no longer used).
NULL This student signed up before this information was collected.
where exactly are these codes being surfaced to the course teams?
In the Instructor Dashboard - Data Download - Student Profile CSV
got it, thanks! I'd suggest also directing your teams to edX Insights, where they will see overall course demographic info with fully spelled out labels.
and , depending on when per-student demographic info is available in edX Insights, translating those codes into more useful labels in that LMS download might be a relatively small change that could ease a lot of pain.
Would be good if you added SPED record. Overlap qualifying enrollment, where Education Plan Type = IEP (100), IFSP (150), ISP (200), Eligible. Thanks.
