As a learner in China, I want to be able to successfully view \content on an edX about page before I'm willing to register/enroll.
Today, course and program about pages appear broken in China, because the videos are served by youtube and do not play. Instead, they appear as a big grey box, and we believe that it stops Chinese learners from enrolling because it signals that they may also not be able to access course videos once they enroll (which is not true - DevOps has recently made changes to make course videos play). Baidu has an educational site with 40M DAUs that they want to use to promote edX content that we believe could be a big opportunity for user acquisition, but we need to make the end-to-end experience work in China before that partnership can proceed.
Hide videos on about pages for Chinese IP addresses users based on geolocation (so that it fails gracefully)
Verify that users with the geolocation country code of CHN are not shown videos on the Course Details page
Can we groom this w the growth team next week? My hope is our currency work will lay a foundation for this story.
Yes - added to Backlog. do you think we should quickly sync before grooming and/or do any pre-discovery? Thank you
& I think we should convert this to a discovery story about using something other than youtube from drupal media module. I'm happy to groom it as such at our next grooming meeting.

I updated this ticket to reflect the technological approach we are taking with the currency localization (i.e. using geolocation instead of IP address identification).
