Go to https://www.edx.org/course
Filter by Partner DoaneX.
Note that three of their courses have an orange banner across the top saying "Credit Eligible".
The three courses are:
https://www.edx.org/course/biostatistics-0
https://www.edx.org/course/medical-terminology-0
https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-lifestyle-medicine-0
If you click through to the course description page for each course, you'll also see images with the same white-on-orange embedded text saying "Credit Eligible".
Issue #1: White text on that orange background (#f36523) has insufficient luminance contrast. This is 3.14:1 vs. white, should be >=4.5:1.
Issue #2: Text that is embedded in images isn't read to screen reader users unless the alt attribute copies the text. The alt attribute in this context is not including that text.
Issue #3: When magnified, the text that is embedded in images becomes less readable for users with low vision because the edges of the text become jaggy when stretched.
Issue #4 (more details below): these DoaneX courses are not appearing in the list when the Credit Eligible filter is applied.
Now, for contrast, try this:
Go to https://www.edx.org/course
Filter by Credit Eligible.
Note that the Credit Eligible treatment does not have the accessibility issues listed above.
Note that the DoaneX courses are not included in the list of credit-eligible courses.
Requested solution: Use the standard visual / markup treatment for the DoaneX Credit Eligible courses, and ensure that those courses are marked appropriately in the database so they will appear in the Credit Eligible filter.
Go to https://www.edx.org/course
Filter by Partner = DoaneX.
Go to https://www.edx.org/course
Filter by Credit Eligible.
Correct! I'll give an update when they have done so just so everyone's on the same page. Thanks!
Changing issue title to match revised focus.
Doane has changed their images. They should appear on edx.org within 24 hours or when the cache clears. Thank you!
FYI
Great, thanks for the update! I'll move this to in review I'll leave this open and we can close it out once it has been confirmed.
Clicked the links in the description and noted that they no longer have the embedded text
