Create OEP-57 (Product Offerings)

This is a fairly short OEP that would:

• Make the Product WG responsible for creating, maintaining, and publicizing three specifications:

  • Product Narrative

  • Core Product Offering

  • Extended Product Offering 

• Declare that the Core Product Offering should be the community’s first priority when it comes to maintenance, security patches, feature investment, etc.

• Declare that the Extended Product Offering also will be supported by the community.

• Declare that anything outside of the Extended Product Offering is “Unofficial” and thus has no guarantee of community support.

• Declare that, until the Product WG defines these terms, the community will act as if:

  • The Core Product Offering is the out-of-the-box community Open edX installation.

  • The Extended Product Offering is everything included in the community Open edX installation.

Why do we need this in an OEP?

• These Product Offerings will be explicitly referenced in other OEPs (below) so I think the Product Offerings need the legitimacy of being defined in an OEP themselves. Let me know if you disagree with this premise.
