The Open edX Conference will be followed by a two-day hackathon at the edX offices. The Open edX community will work together with edX developers to bring some amazing ideas to life, ending with a series of presentations for the groups to show off what they've accomplished. We already have a growing list of hackathon ideas: please add your own, as well!

...

Attendance is limited to 75 guests. All regular edX employees will be in the office that day, and the building can only hold so many people!

Preparation

Everyone attending the Hackathon should come prepared with the edX Developer Stack (Devstack) already installed and working on their machines. Please visit us on IRC or the openedx-ops mailing list if you run into issues installing Devstack.

Everyone should also browse the list of project ideas: Ideas for Open edX Conference Hackathon! Propose new ideas or express interest for others. Get a sense for what people are thinking about working on!

The hackathon time is NOT time for you to work on any private project (such as ongoing work for your job). It is time to collaborate with other community members on mutual projects that are useful (but you usually don't have time to work on), fun, or conceptual. We are sponsoring you to be in our office and giving you time to put aside your day to day work to engage in new, fun, exciting projects.

Wednesday, November 19th

The Open edX conference officially ends at 3:30 on Wednesday. During the "un-conference" time (3:30 - 5), Sarina and others will be at the front of the Radcliffe Gym to chat about the hackathon: logistics, help with finishing up installing Devstack, kick around ideas, etc.

Thursday, November 20th

Sarina and others will be in the cafeteria of edX HQ (9th floor, to the right as you enter the floor) starting at 8 am. At 9 am sharp, we'll have a brief (~15 minute) introduction to the Hackathon. We'll ask people who are spearheading a project to stand up and introduce themselves and their project, and where they'll be working on it. This is the time to get together with people and finalize the project you'll be working on! Join a group, introduce yourself, find a space in one of our conference rooms or at some desks, and start your hacking engines!

Lunch (indian food) will be provided around noon. Vegetarian options will be available. Dinner will not be provided, but we encourage people to organize groups and get dinner together. You can even get dinner delivered to the edX offices, if you want to continue hackathon-ing while you eat!

Friday, November 21st

Come meet back up with your group to finish your project Friday morning.
