Getting There
We will be running a shuttle from the conference hotels to Wellesley. Wellesley Square is approximately a mile (1.6km) from the conference site. The shuttles to the conference site will pick up at the following locations and times:
Monday Morning
- MBTA (Wellesley Square): 8:20am
- Verve Crowne Plaza: 8:00am
- Babson Conference Center: 8:15am
Monday Evening
All shuttles Monday evening will depart at 6:40pm.
Please note: There is a 2 hour wait for the next commuter rail after the 7:01pm train leaving Wellesley Square, so it is imperative that this shuttle leave promptly.
Tuesday morning
- MBTA (Wellesley Square): 8:20am
- Verve shuttle: 8:30am
- Babson shuttle: 8:45am
Tuesday evening
- All shuttles Tuesday evening will depart at 5:10pm
If you are driving, please park in the Davis Parking Facility. Note that since class is not in session, you may park in any space not marked handicapped. More details on getting to Wellesley are available on their website.
For more details on the shuttle schedule, including return shuttles, please refer to the program. The shuttles have a set schedule, so please be on time as so not to miss them.
Registration
The registration desk is located right inside the main entrance of the Lulu Chow Wang Campus Center (LWC). Please note that the main entrance is on the 2nd floor of the building, though it appears to be at ground level when arriving from the main campus entrance.
You do not need to bring your ticket - in order to speed up the registration process, we will simply be checking names.
Eating at the Conference
Breakfast will be served both mornings, right near the registration desk in LWC. There is also a small cafe on the second floor of LWC with snacks, coffee, and drinks available for purchase.
Lunch will be served in Tishman, on the first floor of LWC.
Downtown Wellesley is one mile (1.6km) from the conference and has lots of great food options. Blue Ginger is a very famous and popular restaurant by chef Ming Tsai. Alta Strada is a well-known traditional Italian restaurant from local chef Michael Schlow, and Juniper offers a wide variety of Mediterranean-style tapas. For breakfast and other light fare, there’s a Starbucks, and Wellesley Bakery is also highly recommended.
Downtown Wellesley is about two miles (3.2km) from the Babson Conference Center, and the Crowne Plaza is right by the Natick Mall and Shopping Center.
Unconference, BoFs, and other events
What makes an unconference great is the diverse and unexpected perspectives that come together to facilitate wonderful conversations. A space where you can add your unconference topic ideas will be available Tishman (1st floor, LWC). This will help us transition smoothly from regular conference proceedings to unconference time.
There is no formal time for BOF sessions during the conference. We encourage you to self-organize lunches or meetings during breakfast or breaks. In order to help facilitate this, we will provide a space for you to list topics and a suggested meeting location.
EdCast will also be performing and livestreaming interviews of conference speakers to discuss their talks in more depth. This will be in LWC Room 413, and you can also view the interviews live or after they’ve been recorded at www.edcast.com/openedx.
Remote Participation
If you can’t join us in person, there are still ways to keep up with the action.
Plenary sessions, keynotes, and lightning talks, hosted in the Alumnae Hall auditorium, as well as all breakout sessions, hosted in Tishman, will be livestreamed during the conference. You can reference the schedule for the locations of all breakout sessions. All talks will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel after the conference.
The hashtag for the conference is #openedx2015, which you can follow on Twttier. The Open edX team will also be posting updates via Twitter at @OpenedX.
We will also be writing blog posts at the end of the day, summarizing what happened.
If you use IRC, the Open edX IRC channel is #edx-code on Freenode — it will likely be active during the conference.
Hackathon
As a reminder, there will be a hackathon in downtown Boston following the conference, October 13th and 14th. Details can be found on the hackathon website. If you didn’t RSVP Yes in your conference registration, it’s not too late to join! Visit the registration desk at any time during the conference to get your name added to the hackathon guest list.
