LabXchange 2018-06-08

Notes

  1. Braden: Goal is to have a prototype for Blockstore that can store useful content by September 1

  2. Meeting

    1. Component

      1. Smallest discoverable "thing" in the learning catalog that is an individual, digestible unit (unit) (atomic level learning object).

      2. Unit can contain component(s)

      3. Pathway can contain unit(s)

      4. Assets will generally be files on disk (data associated with a case study, for instance).

    2. Sequence

      1. A collection of learning content blocks.

      2. In edX it's possible to have a single unit, single block sequence.

      3. Not directly analogous to LabXchange Pathways, given a sequence has gradeability.

      4. Part of a larger learning experience

    3. Clusters

      1. Going to need to give contextualization around why pathways were clustered together. Will this interstitial content be different to an asset? Probably, the thinking is to keep that as a description applied to the cluster as opposed to storing that interstitial material in an xBlock.

    4. Pathways

      1. Can be either learner or teacher authored. There won't be an internal distinction between the two use cases, other than teachers being able to grade pathways whereas learners wouldn't be able to.

      2. Minimum conditions: if you create an asset and add it to a Pathway, you have a valid pathway.

      3. LabXchange will likely allow users to create empty pathways.

      4. Pathways do not stack in LabXchange.

    5. Class

      1. A group of people on LabXchange as opposed to a grouping of content

  3. Open Questions and Action Items

    • Finish conversation on Use Case Visual Model

    • Do sequences of sequences exist?

    • What does an adaptive sequence look like?

    • Relook at what constitutes a "Class".

    • Align on definition of roles
