Ordering Problems

Ordering Problems

Ordering problems require learners to put a list of pre-set items in a specific order in order to stack-rank them by whatever criteria is set by the author. This is not a problem type that exists in Open edX currently, so creation of this will require an entirely new problem to be developed.

It’s an extremely simple question type, but one that has immense value for factual recall (such as order of events or important dates, planets, moons, and other sequences) and formative questions.

Accessibility

Similar to drag-and-drop activities (in that a typical ordering activity is a form of drag and drop activity), ordering activities have inherent accessibility issues - the order of the list is visually indicated, and the physical act of dragging and dropping is difficult for users with mobility issues. Fortunately this is typically resolvable by good structuring, use of ARIA attributes, and the inclusion of both keyboard controls and clickable arrows to circumvent the need to drag and drop on mobile devices.
