Key Insights

Main Pain Points:

  1. Forum Management:
Ignacio explained that the separation of forum responsibilities from other roles causes inefficiencies. Each time a new professor is added, they must be manually assigned a role for managing forums. This process is repetitive and time-consuming, leading to operational delays.

  2. Lack of Flexibility in Roles:
External reviewers often receive roles that provide them with more permissions than they need, such as editing capabilities, when they only require view-only access.

Feature Requests:

  1. Limited Access Reviewer Role:
Ignacio suggested the creation of a role that allows users to view course content without the ability to modify it. This would be useful for external collaborators or reviewers who need access but do not need to edit or change the content.

Ease of Use:

  1. Repetitive Forum’s Role Assignment:
Assigning professors to forums is a manual process that slows down workflow. Ignacio indicated that the team has to go through the same steps each time a professor is added.

  2. Limited Use of Roles System:
Ignacio mentioned that their organization primarily uses basic roles such as beta testers and professors, and they don't make extensive use of the roles and permissions system for more complex scenarios.

Support Needs:

  1. Documentation and release notes:
Ignacio did not mention a specific need for additional training, implying that the current resources are generally sufficient for their operations, this is natural since he is heavily involved in the project. He expects to find information about the new ways to use RBAC published in a newsletter, readthedocs and in the release notes of the new version.
