Near-term requirements for Awarding Credentials for Learning Pathways (Willow)
MVP
As an instructor, I want to award credentials to learners when they complete a full learning pathway, so that learners receive recognition for their completion of a pathway.
As an instructor, I want to award a credential for completing an individual course within a pathway, so learners can receive recognition for their completion the course and their progress towards completing a pathway.
As an instructor, I want to decide what earns a credential at the course and pathway level (course completion and/or grade), so that I can choose to recognize learners for their completion of course or pathway content and/or for their performance in the course or throughout the pathway.
As an instructor, I want credentials to be awarded to learners automatically based on the configured completion rules, so that I don’t have to manually manage the process and so that there is little to no delay in learners receiving their credential.
As an administrator, I want to be able to issue the credentials using the digital credential standard or service that my institution uses any time a learner earns a credential, so that the credentials issued by my institution are consistent across my organization.
As a developer, I want to capture an event any time a learner earns a credential at the course or pathway level, so that this events data is available to instances who want this data for reporting and analytics.
As an instructor, I want to be able to view credentials that have been issued, how many credentials have been issued for a course or a pathway, and (if my instance allows me to look at individual learner data, what certificates a learner has attained from my courses and pathways and when), so that I have this information for reporting and for assisting individual learners. (We plan to show all of this in information in Aspects for MVP. Chelsea needs to confirm what information an instructor can view about certificates in-platform on their end today.)
As an learner, I want to download learning pathway credentials, so that I can save and access this artifact as proof of my completion of a course or pathway.
Question - Do we need Product to define exact metadata the credential should capture for individual learners?
As a learner, I want credentials I have earned to stay valid and verifiable even if a learning pathway is archived, so that I continue to have access to my credential after a learning pathway is closed.
As a learner, I want credentials I have earned for a pathway to stay valid and verifiable even if a learning pathway is updated, so that I continue to have access to the credential that I earned before the pathway was updated.
As a learner, I expect that my certificates are easily viewable and accessible via my Learner Dashboard, my Profile page, the Learning Pathway Progress page (to check in with Cassie if this page is within scope for MVP), and the Course Progress page for courses in my pathway, and via any Wallet service my institution uses, so that I can easily find and access the credentials I’ve earned.
Not MVP
I want to award a badge or microcredential when a learner completes a tier/group of courses within a pathway. (Groups will not be introduced until Xylon)
I want to award microcredentials for completing specific sets of courses, even if the full learning pathway is not completed.
I want to decide if and when a competency within a pathway earns a credential.
