How to use a pastebin

You're trying to show someone the output of your installation process, or a program, and there's a lot of text.  You should put that text into a "pastebin."

Step-by-step guide

A "pastebin" is a web site where you can put a page of text so that you can share it with others.  If you have a GitHub account, their gist site is a good one to use.

  1. Copy the text from your computer. Include as much as you can.

  2. Visit https://bpaste.net or https://gist.github.com/.  There are other pastebin sites, but these are good choices

    1. People don't like pastebin.com because it has ads and is sometimes blocked by corporate or national firewalls.

  3. Paste your text into the big text box.

    1. If you have more than one file, bpaste has an “Add another file” button, gist has an “Add file” button.

  4. Click the submit button. Different sites label it differently, bpaste calls it "Paste!", gist calls it "Create Secret Gist."

  5. The browser will take you to a new page.  The address (URL) of the page is unique. You can copy the address from the address bar, and share it with others.

  6. Others can visit the URL you gave them to see the text you pasted.
