In November of 2021, 2U, Inc. purchased “substantially all the assets” of edX, Inc.
The transaction included the edX name, trademark and the edx.org destination web site.
It did not include the Open edX software platform, which remains an open-source project, stewarded by tCRIL and used by many, including 2U.
The edX non-profit was renamed tCRIL - The Center for Reimagining Learning and remains a separate entity.
