In November of 2021, 2U, Inc. purchased “substantially all the assets” of edX, Inc.

The transaction included the edX name, trademark and the edx.org destination web site.

It did not include the Open edX software platform, which remains an open-source project, stewarded by Axim Collaborative and used by many, including 2U.

The edX non-profit was renamed Axim Collaborative and remains a separate entity.
