Dropping Python 3.8/3.11

Feanil

  • 3.11 will ship to edx.org Wed/Thu next week.

  • Related, we’ll be updating .github to default to python 3.11 - Repos that have not upgrade may need to add an override to make requirements.

Open edx-platform DEPRs (time permitting)

Prioritization for What Lands on the Main Branches

  • Try to capture everything that we want to land on master in prioritized order so that we can coordinate removals and cleanups.

Footer behind a Plugin Slot

For MFEs in tutor, we’re trying a new strategy for how the plugin slot would work.

  • Difficult to coordinate with many MFE Leads

  • Not all of them implement the footer in the same way.

Upstream Dockerfiles

Kyle

https://github.com/openedx/public-engineering/issues/263

  • Known to be used by devstack and certain 2U deployments

  • Question

    • Are there other uses of this that we’re not aware of?

      • RG has used them in production not as is but with some modifications.

        • [Max S] These are not ready for production and needed some work.

    • Is there a value to having Dockerfiles in the repo in general? Especially since Tutor has its own dockerfiles?

      • I think this is valuable but only because we don’t have good docs for how to startup a service from scratch.

      • [Feanil] I like it as a piece of testable documentation for getting an app up and running.
