We can (and should!) identify trademarks, service marks, and registered trademarks in edX user guides.

Identifying Trademarked Terms

  • In the US, the guidance is to include the appropriate ™, ℠, or ® symbol "on first use".
  • For international publications, an attribution page should be provided.
  • Trademarks are adjectives, not nouns. Be sure to follow the trademarked term with the appropriate generic term on first use. For example, use "an iPhone® mobile device" rather than "iPhone®"; "on a Mac® computer" rather than "on a Mac®".

Adding Symbols in Sublime 3

Copy one of the following symbols and paste it into your .rst file. (Clunky, but it works...)

  • Registered trademark symbol:  ®
  • Trademark symbol: ™
  • Service mark symbol:  ℠
