Recommender Comparator Research
As this is a relatively specialised tool, fewer comparators are available than most:
Canvas uses discussion activities for resource sharing, and does not have a dedicated tool similar to this that I am aware of. A roughly similar outcome can be achieved this way, however, as they optionally allow learners to award “likes” to valuable posts and have different modes for graded discussions.
Skilljar does not support any peer-to-peer learning activities.
The closest tool to the Recommender in Moodle is the Database activity type.
Database is an activity type that allows learners to submit resources that can be scored by their peers or by staff. It provides a range of preset display options:
Databases set to the “Resources” preset are designed for much the same idea as the Recommender Tool - to “Collect resources such as web links or book reviews in a table, with links to the detailed view”.
Staff can add fields that are required for sharing a resource that form the headings of a columnular table of resources:
Once added, resources can be commented on by learners, given grades, and a variety of other other options configurable by staff.
