Skilljar - Problem Editor

Skilljar has a much smaller pool of question types, but is similarly bound to quizzes in their approach to question insertion. Skilljar has the following problem types:

  • Multiple Choice - Select one of a small number of radio buttons from a list

  • Multiple Answer - Select multiple checkboxes from a list

  • Fill in the Blank - This is actually free text input, with a typed answer appearing after a question, and cannot be used for cloze questions. It shouldn’t be called fill in the blank.

  • Free Form Response - Automatically marks all responses as correct, or requires manual grading. No auto-grading functionality other than simply requiring completion.

  • Linear Scale - Similar to a likert scale, learners input a response on a scale. Seems intended primarily for surveying learners.

  • Upload File - Allows learners to upload a file for staff grading.

Overall, Skilljar’s range of question types is extremely thin compared to other platforms, and the problems available have very little flexibility.

The process of creating questions in Skilljar happens entirely within quizzes, with the actual creation of problems taking place in a minimalist tray UI.

The options available are extremely simple, with no rich formatting being possible beyond limited access to markdown in some cases. There is no flexibility, and the range of assessment options are extremely limited, intended purely for summative assessment.
