Canvas has support for dropdowns in its “New Quizzes” offering, titled specifically as a “Fill in the blank” question. The older version is the Multiple dropdown quiz question, which functions almost identically, the exception being that the New Quizzes version allows multiple input types, similarly to the Moodle Cloze editor. New Quizzes seem to be the more recent, updated version of this, so that’ll be our focus.
The focus of the Fill in the Blank question is on accomplishing that specific activity with the dropdown (or other input types), and does not seem particularly usable for other use-cases, though hacky workarounds are possible to make it behave the same way as an Open edX dropdown. This contrasts with Open edX in that Open edX dropdowns are essentially multiple choice questions, and using Open edX dropdowns for fill in the blank requires our own hacky workarounds. There was some confusion with a few users in their community as to how to insert a dropdown question due to the specific nature of how this feature is named.
