Join working groups as part of on-boarding
Topic
Indicate which topic your proposal falls under:
Overview
New core contributors require a clear path to follow, enabling them to become more involved in the community. Joining working group meetings can be very helpful, as it provides valuable insights into the current status of the topic and outlines further steps that one can take to improve it. The fourth point in the Enhance Core Contributor Onboarding section from the call for proposals states this exact issue.
Call to Action: There’s a need for clearer guidance on the steps to take after onboarding, helping new Core Contributors understand how to actively participate and integrate into the community.
Solution
We can include the working groups that the CC should or can join in the initial nomination forum post. This can be proposed by anyone, including the nominated CC and the nominator. Then, as part of onboarding the CC, they should be invited to the selected working group meeting.
Impact
New core contributors will be able to contribute to topics of their interest from the get go.
Timeline
We only need to update the guidelines about onboarding core contributors to include working groups that they would like to join. Estimate: 2 hours.
