Learner Progress Tracking

Learner progress tracking is a fundamental part of the value offered by an LMS versus a simple page of content or video playlist. By tracking completion and progress, the following activities can be supported via reporting (among others):

  • Analysis and iteration on courses, showing course designers where learners commonly drop out of courses, or which content is regularly revisited.

  • Reporting on course engagement for organisation stakeholders, such as billing for external partners in a corporate context, or engagement for student tuition fees in an academic context.

  • For learners, having a tangible measure of progress helps to keep the learner engaged and plan their study sessions. They know how much of the course is left, and can make it to the next milestone before taking a break, rather than making the course seem like an insurmountable mountain.

Progress tracking has effectively three main areas of needs based on user personas:

  • Organisation Administration - Learning program managers, stakeholders, etc.

  • Course Staff - Teachers, trainers, etc.

  • Learners
