Word Cloud User Stories

A potential ideal version of this tool supports the following user stories:

  • As a learner, I want to submit text to a word cloud, and see the resulting word cloud from other submissions.

  • As a learner, I want to be able to edit my submissions to fix typos and mistakes.

  • As a learner, I want to be able to see some statistics on what my peers have submitted beyond simply the word cloud, such as the top submitted words, and how many people have submitted words.

  • As a course staff member, I want to be able to include a prompt or instructions for learners to use to submit their text to guide them to the right input.

  • As a course staff member, I want learners to be able to share passages of text and have the word cloud pull out the most frequently used terms, while ignoring filler words such as “the”, “a”, “to”.

  • As a course staff member, I want learner submissions to pass through a filter of words that can never be displayed, such as swear words, slang terms, and any custom words that I choose for my course.

  • As a course staff member, I want to be able to remove or ban certain words from appearing in the word cloud, and to be able to prevent that same word from being submitted in the future.

  • As a course staff member, I want to be able to hide the resulting word cloud until sufficient submissions have been gathered, or hide the word cloud altogether to present it back to learners later myself

  • As a course staff member, I want data on who has submitted which words and how many times words have been submitted in order to identify potential issues with the activity and my learners
